BROADCASTING Since 2008, I have been broadcasting various sporting events on radio and TV, most often through Big Ten Network StudentU or BTN Plus.
In the fall of 2011, I locked in as a broadcaster at Indiana University. In my first semester, I broadcasted various Indiana University women's soccer matches and was the producer of a weekly on-air show at WIUX Radio.
In the spring of 2013, I joined the student-run and produced site IUSportCom as a contributor while also returning to WIUX Radio as a show host. Still without the degree of experience I wanted, I joined the Big Ten Network StudentU team as an on-air talent member. In the fall of 2013, I had my first on-air role as a sideline broadcaster for Indiana men's soccer v. Brown University. Since that point and into 2014, I have been featured on multiple broadcasts for Indiana men's soccer (radio/TV) and for the Indiana women's basketball team. In 2015, I expanded my role to other sports, including IU baseball and softball.
Below is a clip of a BTN Plus broadcast - Indiana Men's Soccer v. Butler University on September 17, 2014.
In the summer of 2015, I was contracted by the United States Soccer Federation as a play-by-play broadcaster for the United States Soccer Development Academy Playoffs and Showcase at Grand Park in Westfield, IN. I covered two games for USSoccer.com and U.S. Soccer's official YouTube channel. Below is a clip of my work from that day:
As the play-by-play announcer for Indiana Women's Soccer, I would record weekly recaps and previews for the past and upcoming weekends' games with head coach Amy Berbary. Below is a clip I recorded with our coach prior to a game against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
As mentioned on the previous page, my role as the voice of Indiana women's soccer expanded to both radio and television, and below is an example of a BTN broadcast of the Hoosiers taking on the Ball State Cardinals.
Finally, an example from the NCAA Tournament where the Hoosiers hosted the UCONN Huskies in the Second Round in Bloomington, IN.
After earning my degree at Indiana University, I was hired by the Indianapolis soccer team Indy Eleven of the NASL as the communications and public relations intern. In the A/V department, my work for the "Boys In Blue" has included audio stories with new player signings, like the one heard below with recent Chicago Fire defender Lovel Palmer:
My recent call of Vincent Mitchell's winner for Indy Eleven in the First Round of the U.S. Open Cup:
Also a part of my role with Indy Eleven involves in video production, including gameday previews, post-match reactions, and various other content types. Below are a few examples of my work in this department:
BASKETBALL At Indiana University, I also had my hand in multiple other broadcast opportunities, including time on the Big Ten Network for both men's and women's basketball and for 99.1 WIUX Radio in both a play-by-play and color commentator role.
Below is a clip from the final minute of Indiana Men's Basketball against SMU from November 20, 2014 as the Hoosiers knocked off the Mustangs at Assembly Hall.
I was also lucky enough to be selected as the head play-by-play announcer for Indiana Men's Basketball against the uOttawa Gee-Gees from a preseason match-up in November 2015. Below is a short reel with my call on Troy Williams showing his skills that night:
In addition, that same year I was selected as the color commentator for a BTN production of Indiana Men's Basketball against Eastern Illinois to open up the 2015 regular season at Assembly Hall:
While at Indiana University and IUSportCom, I was the lead writer covering the English Premier League, Indiana Football, and Indiana Soccer. To view all my pieces, visit my IUSportCom author page.
For 8 Points, 9 Seconds, I have written game recap, statistical analysis pieces, and player focuses. To view my work and the site, visit my 8p9s author page.
For Today's Fastbreak, I covered general NBA and NBA Draft stories. Visit my Today's Fastbreak author page to see all my work.
From July 2015-January 2016, I was a proud co-editor of the FanSided site Ink On Indy, an Indianapolis-focused site covering the Colts, Pacers, various college sports, and Indy Eleven soccer. During my time there, Ink On Indy set site records for page views and overall metrics as we provided a different insight to Indianapolis sports. To see all of my work there, click here.
Indy Eleven has been generous enough to provide me with more than a good chunk of workspace to expand my writing, and for that I am grateful. With my editor John Koluder making every piece what it is, I write features on everything from players to recaps and more.
SOCIAL MEDIA My work in the social media department has ranged from promotions and marketing to public relations and communications as I have experience with adidas, the Indiana Golf Association, the Indiana University student site IUSportCom, and Indy Eleven.
In marketing and promotions, I have two semesters under my belt with Team adidas IU, an adidas-affiliated program which using various social media tools to both promote the adidas brand while providing opportunities for students to win prizes and various Hoosiers gear throughout the sporting seasons. The social media tools used for adidas involved Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
In public relations and communications, I have worked extensively with various outlets including the IGA, IUSportCom, and Indy Eleven. I have experience with Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, and more for all of these outlets, and my biggest accomplishments in this area include the launch of the Indy Eleven Snapchat and revamp of the Instagram profile, as well as reaching a growth rate of over 100% on the Indiana Golf Association foundation Facebook pages.
